When Do Tulips Close Their Flowers and Why?

Tulip is flower plant with green leaves and beautiful flowers. You have seen it, right? Its Latin name is Tulipa.

The name Tulipa comes from the word toliban which means turban (because the flower looks like a turban). Tulips belong in family Liliaceae.  They reproduce with seed. The flowers are relatively big and nice and every species have different color of it.

One noticeable characteristic of tulips is that they’reclosing its flowers ate night and during cloudy weather. Tulip flowers are opening and closing according to temperature and light around them. So, at night and during rainy weather tulip flowers are closed in order to protect their reproductive parts from watering the dry pollen.

Tulip flowers are opened in the morning because then, the pollen is dry, so it sticks onto hungry insects. Then insects transfer the pollen to other flowers and fertilization is happening, thus more pollination is more efficient.

Tulips flourish in spring to have bigger changes for survival in warmer temperatures. You can see this phenomenon during sunshine and at sunset. Of course, you can’t miss it if you’re in Netherlands. The country is the biggest producer of tulips in the world.
