Spermatozoids Nearly Always Move To the Right

Spermatozoids are male reproductive cells. They are small and agile cells which can cross a very long distance in just a second. Because of that, following each spermatozoid is impossible.

Three years ago scientists discovered a technique for following the movement of every spermatozoid.
They used a lens-free chip imaging technique that can track the three dimensional (3D) trajectories of more than 1,500 individual human sperm cells.

This technique was published in PNAS science journal.
With this 3D technique scientists discovered that 5 percent of spermatozoids have helical movement. Nearly 90 percent out of these 5 percent have right-handed helical, i.e. they move to the right

Scientist don’t know why spermatozoids move that way.

The same technique can also be used in researching microorganisms or drug testing.
